The microscope has been acquired by means of a cooperative project headed by CSIC, through IBMB, and has been co-financed by European FEDER funds. It is a cutting-edge technology for protein structure resolution, and it will allow facing the new biomedicine and biotechnology challenges.

The Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC) has obtained the biosafety level 2 accreditation for one of its laboratories, which allows the laboratory to work with biological agents classified in the risk group 2.

The platform Cabs (Custom Antibody Service), recently launched, provides universities, public and private research organizations with solutions for antigen detection. CAbS produces monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies for proteins, peptides, organic molecules or other antigens, through standard or customized protocols.
TEC-SALUT Community: RIS3CAT projects for health innovation

RIS3 communities are groups between research institutions and companies, created at the request of the European Union to define and promote scientific projects in strategic sectors in the different European regions. In Catalonia, TEC-SALUT is one of these RIS3CAT communities. It encompasses several projects and has the participation of different CSIC centers. The goal is to create a collaborative space that responds to the challenges of the health system and health technologies.
La relevancia creciente de los esfingolípidos en la biología celular

Los esfingolípidos, lípidos que se caracterizan por su estructura química, se han revelado como inesperados protagonistas de la señalización celular. Un grupo del Instituto de Química Avanzada de Cataluña del CSIC estudia diferentes esfingolípidos naturales y ha sintetizado algunos análogos que podrían aplicarse al tratamiento de la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC). Es, además, uno de los pocos laboratorios europeos y el único en España que realiza mapas de esfingolípidos de tejidos y células para laboratorios externos y empresas.
