Lab-on-a-chip. The future is here

Measuring up to 16 biological parameters with a chip seized only 3 centimetres: is the result of a research developed by scientists at the Centro d’Investigación en Nanociencia y Nanotecnología (CIN2). This new photonic biosensor has been patented in the US and Europe.

Improved nanoparticles for diagnosis and traceability uses

Scientists at the CSIC and at the Universidad de Vigo have developed nanoparticles able to identify almost any substance or molecule, such as drugs, pathogens, pollutants or cells. The particles could be also used as markers to track objects or molecules, to ‘follow’ and detect them through different detection techniques.

New method makes corneal topographic maps in less than a second

Scientists at CSIC have developed a method that enables obtaining a corneal topographic map in less than a second. Compared to current technologies, the new technology is faster and has higher resolution and exactitude. Besides ophthalmology, it can be used in other sectors, like microelectronics or biomedicine. The method can measure surface's profiles at shorter distances than current technologies, without touching the object, which prevents any possible harm. It can get the measures even if the object is within a liquid.

Seeing and cutting with the sound. A 3D acoustic lens with medical applications

A new technology to build tridimensional acoustic lenses that makes possible to obtain 3D images through ultrasounds hs been developed. It can be applied to medical imaging, or as non-destructive way of seeing the inside of non transparent objects, such as bridges, ships structures o plain wings. Also, it can be used to develop a non-invasive scalpel.

A new algorithm could allow ten times more capacity in the digital signal

A fast, accurate method of analysing the singularities of digital signals has been developed. Among its outstanding characteristics, it makes it possible to detect and to recognize patterns and structures starting from very little data and even to recognize subtle changes and relevant information from low resolution pictures.

Photonic lab on a chip for screening particles

A photonic lab on a chip for screening particles or cells entirely made of low-cost materials (silicona and glass).

An acoustic chamber that improves the experimental conditions

Spanish scientists have developed a a new acoustic chamber to asses hearing function in rodents that allows a high control on the experimental conditions and improves animal welfare.

System measures pH level in air

CSIC researchers have developed chemical sensors and a portable electronic device for measuring environmental acidity.

Sunscreen based on the use of silicon microparticles.

Scientists at the CSIC's Center of Physical Technologies and Polytechnic University of Valencia have developed a new sunscreen based on the use of silicon microparticles.
