The growing incidence of hearing disorders brings a presing need for improving not only treatments but also the existing scientific research tools. Spanish scientists at the  Servicio de Evaluación Neurofuncional No Invasiva, in the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas, a joint CSIC-UAM institute, work to better understand the underlying mechanisms of these disorders and to test new drugs. In order to improve pre-clinical essays, these scientists have developed a new acoustic chamber to asses hearing function in rodents. This chamber allows a high control on the experimental conditions, thus increasing the reliability of results, and improves animal welfare.
