System measures pH level in air
Technological offers
CSIC researchers have developed chemical sensors and a portable electronic device for measuring environmental acidity. It is the first system that enables the monitoring of pH levels in air (until now there were only devices to control pH in liquids and soft solids) and can be used to control the installations of museums or libraries, where cultural, artistic and historical objects are preserved, as well as industrial facilities where a control of environmental pH is needed. Altered pH levels can damage materials such as paper, cloths, paints, glass or metals, which can be especially harmful in the case of old and fragil objects such as artistic and cultural artefacts.
