The team of the project The “Liver on a chip” is a microfluidic chamber that simulates hepatic microcirculation which has been designed and manufactured by the scientists. The results of this project, led by the scientist Jordi Gracia-Sancho from the IDIBAPS, will be useful for the study and diagnostic in vitro tool for cell function, pharmacology, toxicity and personalised medicine. It enables to study the cells “in vitro” in conditions that are virtually “in vivo”.
The Biomedical Applications Group at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (CNM-CSIC) led by the scientist Rosa Villa, and the Protective strategies against hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury IDIBAPS group, led by scientist Carmen Peralta, have collaborated in this project.
The system could be applied to all the biomedical research where vascular system is important (liver, kidney or cardiovascular).The technology is offered as a service by the licensee company D+T AIE.
The awards ceremony took place at VHIR on Friday 10th July and hosted the presentation of the 20 best projects, out of the 67 projects presented.
