The CSIC and two universities from Spain have synthesised new compounds to promote proliferation of natural killer T-cells, involved in immune responses.
These compounds are more versatile modulators of cytokine production and have longer life than alpha-galactosylceramide. They have potential as vaccine adjuvants and drugs for autoimmune diseases, infections or cancer. Pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies are sought to collaborate under a patent license.
