Sunscreen based on the use of silicon microparticles.

Scientists at the CSIC's Center of Physical Technologies and Polytechnic University of Valencia have developed a new sunscreen based on the use of silicon microparticles. The sunscreen, besides protecting against UV radiation, provides a thermoregulator effect thanks to the strong scattering properties of the microspheres in the infrared range of frequencies. The microspheres are chemically inert and non-photocatalytic, therefore they do not cause either reactions nor allergies They have a very smooth surface thus giving a soft feel when applied onto the skin. The fact that their size is in the micrometer range, prevents the particles from entering into the human tissue.
