ICMAB's Soft Service obtains the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Certification

The certification ensures the quality of the service provided and the improvement and extension of this quality to future services. The characterization and preparation of nano and biomaterials (Soft) technical service is run by the Nanomol Research Unit of the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB, CSIC) and CIBER-BBN.

Soft Service/U6 Nanbiosis | ICMABThe Scientific and Technical Service for the characterization of nano and biomaterials, the Soft Lab,  aims to offer characterization services of micro- and nanostructured soft molecular materials to the entire scientific community that requires them.

The Soft service is also part of Unit 6 of Platform 2 of the ICTS Nanbiosis, a cluster of scientific-technical facilities that offer highly advanced technological resources to research groups and companies in the field of biomaterials and nanomaterials.

The Soft service has several laboratories at ICMAB equipped for the study of the stability of solutions, the study of particle size distribution, the determination of the density of porous solids, or the study of biomolecular interactions of materials, among others.

Among other projects, this laboratory has participated in the preparation of very stable nanovesicles based on lipids for drug delivery; and in the development of a nanomedicine for the treatment of Anderson-Fabry disease, a rare disorder that affects 2.6 out of 10,000 people in the EU.

Following a series of audits that evaluated the Soft equipment and services for materials characterization, the service was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 quality certification at the end of 2021.

The ISO standard is the most widespread and recognised reference system for the implementation and certification of a quality management system, based on three axes: continuous improvement, customer satisfaction and involvement of all stakeholders.

This Service has equipment for the study of the stability of solutions, particle size distribution, determination of the density of porous solids, and for the study of biomolecular interactions of materials, among others.

The principles of quality management taken into account in the evaluation are: focus on the customers; management leadership; commitment with the people; process approach; continuous improvement; evidence-based decision making; relationship management.

Therefore, the Soft service is responsible, as reflected in the quality commitment agreement, for providing its services with the highest quality standards, and for the continuous monitoring of various indicators to assess the degree of compliance with the quality commitments, including the customer satisfaction degree. These statistics will be part of the corresponding quality reports and reviewed by the service management team, as set out in the Soft/U6 Nanbiosis quality policy.

ICMAB's Soft service is part of the ICTS Nanbiosis through Platform 2 (Production of bio- and nanomaterials), Unit 6 (Biomaterials processing and nanostructuring unit).

Nanbiosis is one of the 29 ICTS (Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures) recognised by the Council for Scientific, Technological and Innovation Policy (CPCTI) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, oriented towards medical applications, and offers a complete and easily-accessible service for those companies and research institutions working in the design and production of biomaterials and nanomaterials.
