A mustard variety for biodiesel production

Scientists at the CSIC's Instituto de Agricultura Sostenible  have developed a mustard variety very resistant to draught and heat. It can be used for biodiesel production in marginal farmlands thus avoiding competence with food crops. Industrial partners are sought for license agreements.

Investigadores del CSIC trabajan en el desarrollo de chopos y abedules modificados genéticamente para limpiar suelos contaminados por metales pesados, como plomo o cadmio, y derivados de explosivos. También trabajan en la mejora genética del castaño y en la crioconservación de árboles selectos de España, como los robles y castaños, para lo cual están creando un banco de germoplasma, una herramienta útil en la conservación de la bioversidad.
