Molecules activated by light

The molecules that change their form when they receive light have opened the door to the so called photo-activated drugs. The change of structure makes them bind together and recognize  biological receptors and, therefore, to activate or deactivate them. At the CSIC’s Institute of Advanced Chemistry, scientists are working to develop these types of molecules which can be applied to biomedicine.

Chaos as a strategy

A study analyzes the search strategy for food used by a marine snail. It is based on chaotic turns and movements. This search pattern, could be useful for search applications (drons, people rescue…) when there is no clear sign of the item that has to be found.

Award for the bioreactor that simulates the liver

A novel targeted anticancer therapy system based on carbon nanocapsules

Researchers from the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) in collaboration with the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC-CNRS) and King’s College London (KCL) have developed a novel nanocarrier anti-cancer platform for the targeted delivery of radioactivity.
